Dec. 7 Charlie Sobszack - "The Changing Face of Nature."
Charles Sobezak is a Sanibel Realtor who's also found time to write a half-dozen or so books about Florida's wildlife and environment. His lectures and PowerPoint presentations are genuinely funny — titles such as "Alligators, Sharks & Panthers: How to Avoid Being Eaten" — as well as education-al. Plus, he's a truth-teller who doesn't pull any punches about science, climate change, overpopulation and habitat loss. He usually speaks at libraries in Lee and Collier counties, and through the Road Scholar program.
Jan. 11 Rebecca Yu He - “Birding in South China”
Rebecca Yu He was born and raised in China and has taught Chinese language and culture in many settings for 30 years. She is currently a Chinese teacher at Canterbury School. When she is not developing lessons and teaching, she is following her other passion- birding and photography.
Feb. 8 Audrey Albretch SCCF - "Shorebirds of Sanibel and Captiva"
Audrey is a biologist with a BS in Wildlife Conservation Biology from the University of Rhode Island and a Master's in Environmental GIS (Geographic Information Science) from Unity Environmental University. She is originally from Connecticut and has been working with shorebirds for over 20 years. She joined the SCCF in 2016 as the shorebird biologist.
Learn about the shorebirds that nest and raise their young on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva, including snowy plovers, Wilson's plovers, and least terns. We will also discuss how local conservation groups work together to conserve and protect these species, and how you can share the shore and help our beach-nesting birds.
Mar.22 CREW’s Piper Jones- "Birding on the CREW trails"
Piper graduated with a Biology degree from Bowling Green State University and immediately began working as a Park Naturalist at For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum. She then moved to Florida in 2021 and worked as an Ecologist for 3 years before transitioning to her current position as the Education Coordinator for CREW Land & Water Trust. Piper serves as the Vice President of the SWFL Association of Environmental Professionals and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at FGCU.
